Sunset Optimist Club of Liguanea
Third Quarter April - June 2010
Without fear of contradiction we can safely declare the third quarter as the best so far. The reach, the impact, the sense ofpurpose with which we executed our tasks and responsibilities in the service of our children must be acknowledged as nothing short of just immense.
With two exceptional community service projects, a successful hosting of a benefit theatrical production and three vibrant monthly meetings the Sunset Liguanea family of Optimists is alive, breathing and well. Despite the continued challenges with meeting our financial obligations and a larger than acceptable inactive membership, we still made quality intervention in our communities on behalf of our children. This in and of itself is commendable; but it also provides us with a better platform from which we could take the seemingly drastic actions all aimed at putting the club on a sustainable path.(Click here for full report)

Sunset Student Scoops Second
Congratulations are in order for Tori Pryce who placed second in the District's essay competition for 2010. Tori, sponsored by the Sunset Optimist Club, was challenged to write an essay on the topic "The Internet: Today's Evolution or Tomorrow's Menace?" Each year, the Essay Contest is sponsored by Optimist International to give young people the opportunity to write about their own opinions regarding the world in which they live. The approach can encompass a young person’s personal experience, the experience of their country or a more historical perspective. In additional to developing skills for written expression, participants also have the opportunity to win a college scholarship of up to $US6,000!
Tori's essay was selected for the top 3 from 14 zone entrants. As such, she will also receive a cash prize from the NCB Foundation, a sponsor of the event. Congratulations again to Tori, LTG Latoya and all the members of the Sunset Optimist Club of Liguanea who aided in her success.

The President’s Report - 2Q
This has been a very trying quarter for the Administration of President No. 11. However, in exploring alternatives to what we thought were initially the right roads and finding solutions to emerging doubts we not only learnt a lot about the environment in which we operate as a service club but also strengthened our optimism as a way of life.(click here to read the full report)
