The President's Message 2013/2014

Greetings Fellow Optimists,

I’m honoured to be elected President of the Sunset Optimist Club of Liguanea for the 2013/2014 year. This is my third year in this organization and I must say that it has been a great journey so far. The Optimist Club is a positive place where its members can bring out the best in children and I’m grateful to be a part of it. I joined in order to volunteer my talent and time; to meet new people; and to explore the gift of giving.

In this New Year I hope to do a variety of things. As President, I want to lead my team to greatness by continuing to put efforts into our community service projects. I also hope that we can improve our club’s communication among its members and also with the general public. Strengthening our membership is key but, to do so, we must first work on improving our relationships with each other through better communication, improved attitudes and an overall desire to be more involved in projects.

I expect to receive the full support of my team and the entire club membership and this will allow me to work to the best of my ability. I encourage respect among the group of us; hard work is necessary; ideas are welcomed; and when we plan we must execute. Always keep our goals in mind and do our best to reach them. This mind set will make this 2013/1014 year a fulfilling one. As for the projects we intend to embark on, there is always room for suggestions. However, the Sunset Optimist Club of Liguanea will be sure to launch its mentorship programme with Cumberland High School this year. We will also aim to improve our relationship with our two JOOI clubs at Rousseau Primary and Kingston College. And, we will continue the tradition of working alongside children with cancer.

This year we must become agents of change. We must appreciate the gift of giving. We must showcase our optimism. We must create moments for all our members to shine. We must focus on our children. This year we will be “Uncovering Our Children’s Gifts”. I look forward to serving you all as we all try to uncover our own gifts and the gifts of the children we serve.
